Memory slot puzzle by
Menno Hershberger
HP Pavilion a6200n won't boot up.
By process of elimination I discovered that if I removed one of the two 1Gb
DDR2-5300 memory sticks it would boot.
There are 4 slots, 2 blue ones next to each other and 2 black ones next to
the blue ones. Both chips were in the blue slots, none in the black...

Hard drive activity lights on case front. by
John
Do they normally only work if the hard drive is connected to SATA port
#1 or #2. Without thinking I connected the hard drive & DVD to ports 3 &
4 and so far haven't seen the lights work even after reversing the light
wiring connection at the motherboard.
Thanks,
John

you can read on it is at http://mewnlite.com/wirelesscard.jpg - There is
nothing on the back except a MAC address and a serial number. The guy...

I use my netbook at home wireless in the U.S., as we have internet
service for the desktop. I also use this small computer in the
library and Borders bookstore. The wireless connections are very
good.
I took this netbook to China a while ago, and stayed in my mom's
house. She had internet...

Watching computer tv from the next room. by

My ex-girlfriend is on a tight budget, has no DVDR. and currently
watches network tv shows that she can't watch live on her computer,
from the ABC, CBS, NBC websites, etc.
She would like to watch on her tv, in the next room from her
computer, with a comfortable sofa to sit on, instead of the...

apps to view hardware specs by
coltrane
are there any apps that will report the specs of a system?
I am primarily looking for something that will report memory type and
timings. System bios version would also be nice. I used to have
something around that would give me this info but it seems to be lost in
the ether.
thanks

New Year tidings to everyone by
Bear Bottoms
Not long ago I was sitting down to Christmas dinner with my family.
Not all cultures celebrate Christmas but almost everyone celebrates the end
of the year. It is a reflective time; a time to look back on the year, a time
to count our blessings.
The last year has been a wonderful year for the...

Minikeyboard vs. Traditional keyboard by
species8350
Hi,
I am getting some shoulder pain when using my pc.
I am thinking of swapping the keyboard for a minikeyboard that does
not have the key pad.
Has anyone any experience of using the minikeyboard?
Does it have any disadvantages?

My New Laptop Battery by
aaaaa
I just received a new PA33838U-1BRS (?12 cell I think) battery I
bought from batterydepot.com and I am surprised that it has so short a
life in my Toshiba A75-S209 laptop.
I should say for the record that the battery arrived fully discharged,
dead as could be. That surprised me too.
But then I...

Are there features to look for in a PATA DVD burner by

Are there features to look for in a PATA DVD burner?
I need to buy an internal PATA, DVD-burner to make up for the
CD-burner that won't open!
I just bought one from Newegg for the second bay, which so far works
fine, and I don't use anything much, a total of maybe 5 or 10 times a
month between...

USB jacks turn flaky by
Don Phillipson[_4_]
On an ASUS P4P800S motherboard (2004) the four back-
panel USB jacks now seem unreliable (intermittent.) The two
front panel USB jacks appear OK.
1. Is this a known problem with Asus MBs? (Perhaps few
people still run a year 2004 mb.)
2. Is my simplest solution simply to add a PCI card...
