Memory slot puzzle by Menno Hershberger
HP Pavilion a6200n won't boot up. By process of elimination I discovered that if I removed one of the two 1Gb DDR2-5300 memory sticks it would boot. There are 4 slots, 2 blue ones next to each other and 2 black ones next to the blue ones. Both chips were in the blue slots, none in the black...

Hard drive activity lights on case front. by John
Do they normally only work if the hard drive is connected to SATA port #1 or #2. Without thinking I connected the hard drive & DVD to ports 3 & 4 and so far haven't seen the lights work even after reversing the light wiring connection at the motherboard. Thanks, John

Sleuth needed by Menno Hershberger
I had to do a wipe and reinstall on an HP with XP Media Center Edition. The owner had added a PCI wireless card with an antenna mounted. Everything you can read on it is at http://mewnlite.com/wirelesscard.jpg - There is nothing on the back except a MAC address and a serial number. The guy...

New Year tidings to everyone by Bear Bottoms
Not long ago I was sitting down to Christmas dinner with my family. Not all cultures celebrate Christmas but almost everyone celebrates the end of the year. It is a reflective time; a time to look back on the year, a time to count our blessings. The last year has been a wonderful year for the...

My New Laptop Battery by aaaaa
I just received a new PA33838U-1BRS (?12 cell I think) battery I bought from batterydepot.com and I am surprised that it has so short a life in my Toshiba A75-S209 laptop. I should say for the record that the battery arrived fully discharged, dead as could be. That surprised me too. But then I...

USB jacks turn flaky by Don Phillipson[_4_]
On an ASUS P4P800S motherboard (2004) the four back- panel USB jacks now seem unreliable (intermittent.) The two front panel USB jacks appear OK. 1. Is this a known problem with Asus MBs? (Perhaps few people still run a year 2004 mb.) 2. Is my simplest solution simply to add a PCI card...
