Upgrad Advice - Please help choose MB/CPU config by Wildfire563
Ok, I've narrowed my choices. I'm looking to very cheaply upgrade my Soltek Athlon XP 1700+ computer. My graphics card will probably be an FX5200 128 MB (or a GeForce3 128 MB), at least for the time being. I just don't have much cash, but I need to upgrade this computer for MS Flightsimulator....

Does thermal paste go off? by D-Dan
Thanks - I thought of that - but I'm still going to have to clean the gunk off first - so how do I do that?

Problem with printer since installing broadband by Claire Owen
Hi new here, I am hoping someone might know the answer to my problem. Since having put broadband on I have a printer problem. It seems to be that the printer tries to work but stops after one third of a page. I have been told that a router might solve the problem. Any opinions? Claire in...

HP Printer Won't Feed by Gary Brown
Hi, My daughter just called from DC. Her printer (HP 3650) stopped feeding in the middle of a print job. She can hear the usual noises but it just won't feed. She tried fanning the paper then feeding in one sheet to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks,

So, I don't need a new router -- my current one is just weird by Cyde Weys
You may remember my post a week or two ago when I said something was messed up with my router and I was considering a new one. Well, that's partially true. My network configuration only works if I have the cable to my switch in the leftmost port of the router. Anywhere else and you get all of...

display suddenly gone wrong by [email protected]
Hello: I'm running Windows 2000 with an Nvidia GeForce 440MX graphics card. Yesterday, having done nothing unusual, I started up the PC and it told me that it had miraculously "found new hardware" -- Nvidia Dualview. At the same time I find that my display has gone wrong. Resolution has been set...

Use only USB drive? Boot from firewire? by Noozer
Assuming that my mainboard supports booting from a USB device, is there any reason that I couldn't install Windows XP or Linux on a PC who's only drive is a USB 2.0 drive? ....and are there any mainboards out there that support booting from firewire?

NEC ND-2510A can't read DVD+R9? by Cyde Weys
I just recently ordered some Memorex Double Layer DVD+R 2.4X discs. I have a NEC ND-2510A DVD writer which is supposed to be able to read and write +R DL discs. I updated the ND-2510A to the latest firmware version, 2.18. Yet when I insert a blank disc it is not identified at all by Windows and...

Is there a noticable difference between an AMD socket A Barton 333 bus speed and 400 bus speed? Is it worth upgrading form one to the other? TIA! Christopher

CD-R is very hot by Mr.Happy
lately the CDRs I burn are getting hot. They werent cool before, but now they are real hot. I mean like baked. When a CDR (like everything else) gets hot it expands, then when it cools off it contracts. Does that damage it? Will it be readable? Is there risk of loss of data? Is this a good reason...

TV card - digital? by GT
Is there an AGP video card with built-in TV tuner that will decode the freeview digital signal (UK) without an external set-top box? I would like something at least as fast as my current 64MB Radeon 8500, but as cheap as possible!

Can't get into Win XP after removing hard drive by Random Person
Hi guys. As you all may recall, I've gotten rid of my old malfunctioning 80GB Maxtor. This drive was the slave HDD on IDE channel 1. It was partitioned into a 40GB Linux drive (bootable) and 40GB of FAT (for transferring data between the O/Ses). After formatting (had to use the Win XP install CD...
