HP 5500 PDA and WPA Encryption by
JJG
A very good friend has an HP 5500 PDA that only provides for WEP
encryption. Is there any way it can be changed or upgraded to provide
WPS-PSK so that he can connect to a wireless network set up for that
encryption.
Thank you.

How does PC power-on work ? by
[email protected]
Apparently PCs often have problems if left off for weeks?
Understandably the battery/cell becomes discharged.
But I think 'dry joints' also develop in some of the many connections.
Once my PC failed to run after it had been out of use for 6 weeks, and
eventually I determined that the 'Start...

Is there a standard angle of inclination for LCD displays to get the best
definition and color?
My wife insists on having the screen vertical but I like to have it facing
me squarely.

Standard azimuth angle for displays? by

Is there a standard viewing angle for flat panel displays to get the best
definition and color?
I mean the up-down azimuth angle.
My wife insists on having the screen vertical but I like to have it facing
me squarely.

Memory: Does it matter if big DDRs are firsr or second?
Posted to alt.comp.hardware and alt.sys.pc-clone.dell, since the
computer is a Dell and I started the topic in that group, but have
broader questions now.
I have two 512M and two 1G DDRs and they are the same speed PC2700,
the same 333,...

Voltage for powering US hub? by
Terry Pinnell[_3_]
I've dusted off a 4-port USB hub I had lying but can't find whatever
adapter it came with. What are the specs please? I want to replace a
PC-powered hub with it.
I have several old adapters. This one (which happily has the correct plug)
has switchable outputs of 3V, 4.5V and 6V, with current...

Corporate PC Hardware Recommendations by
TheScullster
Hi all
Can anyone provide guidance on appropriate PC specs please?
Our Dell Optiplex desktops are reaching end-of-life (bought 2004).
They have been OK but recently the number of mobo failures has been high.
So who is the current preferred supplier of these things - for quality,
value service...

Hardware Wizard doesn't search internet by
Terry Pinnell[_3_]
Can anyone tell me where to find the setting to make the Hardware Wizard
search the internet (or Windows Update) please?
I used to get that facility and now I never do. On my XP Pro PC the search
is only local, either my HD or CD drive (I don't have a floppy drive.)

newbie: question about ip cameras by
tg
I'm thinking of getting an ip camera and streaming live video on a web
page. The web page is on my own linux web server running on the same
internal LAN as the ip camera. Problem is I don't want a pc or computer to
be involved. Do ip cameras have to be driven by software on a PC? or are
there...

problem with memory modules by
Magnus Warker
Hello,
my system has a problem with the memory:
Running memtest on my four modules results in errors.
Running memtest on 2 of them also results in errors.
But running memtest on each of the 2 above does not result in errors.

What do you think about this rig? by
J B
I'm trying to build a PC for work and gaming. For work I'll need to
run finite element analyses, engineering CAD and virtual machines off
an encrypted hard drive.
Price:performance ratio is my priority, and not absolute performance.
Is the motherboard I chose a good chipset and with lots of room...

can XP run from a usb external IDE? by
[email protected]
I don't use Micro$loth win, but when I last bought a
80 GB IDE, I asked the vendor to put W98 on the
first 1 GB partition. And later I was able use it to
connect via my friends Fixed-Wireless-Terminal.
But when I bought my own FWT, it had the new
usb "Zero-CD" system, which needs XP or later.
I...

Are CD/DVD-roms known to be quirky? by

Ich kan auch Deutch lesen
For years I avoided CDs, while I was waiting for the fad to pass.
Now my 3 PCs try to use an IDE CDrom and a usb-CD/DVD r/w,
which I can also unplug from its usb-interface to use as the
IDE-device.
Often I need to re-try mounting before I succeed.
With 3 PCs and multiple...
