DELL Inspiron 8500 WLAN Fails - GOT IT WORKING! by
Frederick
Persistence pays off again. Turns out the danged BIOS was not set up
properly (by default) for wireless. Once set correctly, wireless
worked immediately.
On the one hand, I rightfully feel stupid because I should have looked
there first, but didn't. On the other hand, the many web...

DELL Inspiron 8500 WLAN Fails - New Thread by
Frederick
Yes, it is me again. New thread.
I have gotten nowhere. Since I cannot get either of my two wireless
adapters to work - I am forced to try to buy a replacement for one of
them. I have to wonder - is it worth it?
I ask - has anyone out there had an Inspiron 8500 laptop actually
work...

When I select F8 for safe mode on this laptop, the screen just shows
gibberish for the XP/SP3 boot. I have never encountered this before
on desktops. What would cause this?
Thanks

DELL INSPIRON 8500 WLAN FAILS by
Frederick
I am installing XP SP3 fresh on this laptop. I think it has a Dell
TrueMobile 1300 so-called Mini-PCI card. Device ManagerNetwork
Adapters shows that this is so, and says it is working. However
wireless does not work - setup 'cannot find a wireless in range - my
router is within 5 feet.
In an...

More than 3GB with 32-bit OS by
Pimpom
I've long heard that a 32-bit OS can use only up to 3.25 GB
system memory. This is the case with my own computer which has 4
GB installed and TaskManager shows 3.25GB usable memory. However,
while checking around for a new system, I read in some Asus
motherboard manuals that if 4GB or more is...

Looking for a good inkjet by
John Corliss[_2_]
My venerable HP855c is finally starting to show some problems. As you
can see, it's been a long time since I shopped for a printer. What I've
noticed about newer printers is that replacing cartridges can be very
expensive. I would like to find a non-all-in-one printer within the
$50-$140 price...

Why Terratec Aureon 5.1 Fun got burned? by
t47
Hello,
I've a problem. Some time ago I connected Terratec Aureon 5.1 Fun card
to a server (PCI slot). It was universal (5V & 3.3V) card so I thought
it would be fine. Card got burned immediately after powering up the
server. Pins around 10 (just before first notch if you count from the
rear of the...

Pay TV industry loses record number of subscribers by
Michael Gross
On 08/10/11 12:36, S. Josephenne Magana wrote something stupid and it
sounded like this:

Of course they say it's the economy but please don't tell me it's not

How to attach leads straight to battery? by
micky
It seems my IBM Thinkpad's CMOS battery has died, and it's know that
it won't boot wihtout it.
I don't have time to wait for a new one by mail, plus I have some
CR2032's in my fridge. The flat things that look like litttle
frisbees.
The current one has the wires connected to metal tabs stuck...

INSERTING BATTERY by
Alonso
When attaching battery back to laptop, should we move first center battery
latch to the right side, or dont't move it, as it should lock in position by
pressing of a battery guide lug?
I mean this latch:

Dummy battery/slot filler by
Corvet
I just wondering if there is a dummy battery insert/slot filler that exists
for Dell Vostro 1520? I just often use laptop on AC and remove battery;
is there anywhere a plastic "dummy" battery to fill up the space? As I know
there was such thing for Dell Latitude D410

How better manage laptop battery for better conditions and battery long

plugged in? Or I should fully charge battery, then disconnect Power supply
and work from battery?

choosing between a HP touchpad and Apple iPad by
g
I realize the iPad has a lot more apps than Touchpad and price wise for
a 16GB with Wi-Fi both are around 500, but which would be a better
choice for a user in his mid sixties who has glasses(so needs text size
to be 105 dots per inch or higher). The user has always used Windows
machines and...

How useful/essential is USB 3.0? by
Pimpom
I'm putting together a system on a tight budget and I'm sure
about what I need or want regarding most of the features except
for USB 3. It seems to me that most USB hardware don't use even
USB 2.0 to its full capacity. The exception is perhaps an
external HDD which I've never used so far.
So,...
