Inexpensive film/slide scanner needed. Suggestions ?? by
Ian Woodrow
Hi
Here's the story...
I acquired a used Nikon Coolscan III (LS-30) but the results weren't so
great. The initial images are very soft in a way that would indicate
possible dust on the inside mirror. So, knowing that to get this
serviced would cost a fortune I had a look around and found a...

Any scanner (or software) with "auto rotate"? by
Rod
G'day Trendsetters,
I have an Epson Perfection 1670
and I use it for scanning Postage Stamps
I am pleased with it in general, as I can scan 30 stamps
in one operation, however the images are naturally
never perfectly positioned.
I notice with my OCR, the scan will "auto rotate" the image
prior to...

Nikon LS-2000 firmware upgrade/downgrade by
Mirko
Hello everybody
I apoligise for any possible mistakes in this message.
I own a Nikon LS-2000 scanner. When I purchased it, the firmware version
was 1.2, and the quality of the scanned images was absolutely stunning.
Since the new 1.3 firmware was available on Nikon's website, I decided to
upgrade...

Scans of 35mm slides are mostly red. How to fix? by
Gary
If I scan my slides that are plastic mount, there's no problem. But if
the slides are cardboard mounted, the image comes out mostly red. The
blue channel is almost totally black. Using a Visioneer 9020 USB. Any
idea? Why are the plastic mounts OK, but the cardboard ones aren't?

How big is the file size produced by the Nikon 5000 scanner? by
Father Kodak
I can't find this info anywhere on the Nikon web site.
If I scan an image full-on highest res, 16-bit color depth and save to
a lossless format (TIFF?) how big will that file size be? If I scan a
B&W neg, will the file size be 1/3 of the color file size?
--thatcher--
Thank you.

Bad eyes, diopter? (and Vuescan) by
AAvK
I have diabetic neuropathy in my optic nerves, which is sugar crystals in there
and that messes-up eyesight. But glasses do work fine to correct my vision.
I seem to notice that my images (35 slides) look sharp under a loupe, then I
scan them and they come up fuzzy! My older 6x7 positives are...

kodak ectochrome slides (info & history) by
sammy
Hi all,
recently during my scanning project I've come accross some old family slides
in the ectochrome format, they are larger than the 35mm type and they are
square rather than rectangular. They are also RED, meaning everything is in
the hue of red. When I scan these (using vuescan) and run them...

scanner/pdf/paperport question by
Rod Kenly
I've been pondering the thought of finally scanning all my documents -
bills-donations-etc and then shredding the originals.
My plan is to scan into a PDF file with a filename (electric_dec03.pdf) and
then burning a CD at the end of the year. That way I have IRS document (got
audited this year -...

Scanning small negatives by
Perico de los Palotes
Hi, all
Here is exactly the opposite question: I have a bunch of old 110-fomat
negatives. Any ideas of how to scan them? Has anyone heard of some adapter
ot something to hold them? I have a Nikkon Coolscan V, great for 35 mm.
Thanks for any input.

Scanner software? by
AlCamp
I have an Epson 1660 Perfection Scanner running Twain via USB 2.0.
The scanner may be "Perfection", but the software certainly isn't! While I
have a "one button" copy feature on the scanner, the software won't allow
for customizing the "default" copy settings. (Color/BW, Darkness, Pic/Text,
etc..)...

decent scanning software (Epson scan is rubbish) by
Alex Hunsley
I've just bought an Epson 2480 scanner. Scanner itself seems fine, but
as usual, the bundled manufacturer written software isn't very good.
The main points of contention so far a
1) you can adjust the levels of the image after a preview but it won't
show you what the resulting effect will be on...

Scanning fax quality multipage TIFFs by
Jeff P
For years I have been faxing stuff to myself from a conventional fax machine
to my computer. The faxes are received and saved as multi-page TIFF files
that are of decent quality and only take 30-40 kb per page. I especially
like doing it this way because I can shove several pages into the machine...

Scanner speed by
wmchung
Hi all,
I would like to know what mainly determines the speed of scanner. Is the
speed normally depend on scanner ? Is the speed of the computer also a
determining factor ?
Normally how long can one page of document be scanned ?
Thanks in advance.

Good occasional use printer by
Shannon Jacobs
Well, this thread is addressing my interests and situation, too. First I
want to jump in on the evils of printers. My opinion is that all printers
are the spawn of Satan, and their only real purpose in life is to mangle as
much paper as they can get into their little trays. The last good printer...

Any reason why I shouldn't buy the Canon FS4000US? by
Dimitris
Hi all,
I'm considering forking out the 600-odd GBP for a FS4000US, was wondering if
there are any (strong) reasons on not to buy it. I'm mostly concerned about
it being "overtaken" by a newer version... after all, i think it has been
around for a couple of years now.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Dimitris
