Which Intel CPUs should I get? by
Ant
Hello all.
I am planning to upgrade my computer again next month. I am at a loss on
which Intel Core 2 Duo CPU to get since there are so many models:
E7300 (2.66 ghz 1066 fsb) = $135
E7400 (2.8 ghz 1066 fsb) = $155
E8200 (2.66 ghz 1333 fsb) = $175
E8400 (3.0ghz 1333 fsb) = $190
E8500 (3.16ghz...

30-stage pipeline for Prescott? by
Yousuf Khan
The following article is suggesting that the pipeline stages could go upto
30 stages (50% increase over current P4). This is all to be able to get to
the 4Ghz mark:

Dual Core vs. Hyperthreaded? by
S Smith
I'm currently putting together the specs to build myself a new
system (something I do every couple of years). I am looking at
Intel CPU's and I see that I have a choice between a Pentium
4 3.2 GHz Hyperthreaded CPU or a Dual Core 2.8 GHz CPU
for about the same price. But, I have noticed that the...

4Ghz by 2004? by
Yousuf Khan
Intel is predicting that it will be at 4Ghz by the end of 2004, with the
introduction of the 90nm Prescott processor. Of course there's word that the
initial versions of Prescott are already using well over 100W of energy,
near the 3Ghz mark, one can only imagine how much a 4Ghz will take....

Intel new gaming P4 by
Yousuf Khan
Intel is introducing a new Pentium 4 version for gaming, sporting 2MB of L2
cache, known as Pentium 4 Extreme Edition. Sounds like a single-processor
Xeon to me:

Building a Computer by
PikeDemon
Looking to build my own system and seeking opinions on what are the
best components (motherboard, etc.) to use on a mid-range performing
system. Not interested in using it for high performace gaming and the
like. But would like to put together a P4 system, 800 MHz bus, etc.
Any thoughts?

Optimum temperature for P4 Prescott? by
Bobby
My new CPU is an Intel P4 (Prescott) running at 3.0GHz. The CPU temperature
is between 62-70C. Is that OK?
It's higher than I'm used to (usually AMD CPUs which run cooler than this).
Cheers.

Tejas canned? by
Yousuf Khan
Suggests that the followon generation to the Prescott Pentium 4 is no longer
following on. There might already be an AMD64-capable Pentium M ready to
take its place.

Prescott vs. Northwood and other ponderings by

Am I missing something or is it true that Intel has made zilcho case
for Prescott over Northwood at the same speed? Let's see: you mean
my computer can be noiser and hotter for no reason... umm, er... I'll

Found the oldest working PC? by
Yousuf Khan
Apparently a Dutch company is still running an old 8088 IBM PC-XT computer
from 1983. HP & Intel cosponsored the contest. And so the company won 4
brand new P4 computers -- but they're still not going to give up the old XT.
The contest was put on because so many companies have refused to...

A full PC handheld, called the OQO, is due to be released later this year.
This is not just some Windows CE PDA, this is a full PC capable of running
Windows XP (or likely even Linux, of course). Comes with a built-in 20GB HD,
and an 800x480 LCD display, 256MB RAM, and a Transmeta processor. And...

90 nm or 0.13 micron - which way to go? by
MyndPhlyp
So now I have a choice in 800 MHz P4 processors - I can get the "D" chip
built at 0.13 micron or the "E" chip built at 90 nm.
Common sense tells me the smaller the processing, the higher the potential
for error (and meltdown). On the other hand, the newer chips tend to see
improvements in the line...

Not sure what type of memory I need,
It would be easy if I had a 100 or 133 HHz bus, but I have a 67 MHz,
the only SDRAM I see offered comes in 100 and 133.
I looked a the chip, but that has no identification/specs written on
it.
I put XP on this computer and about all it can do id boot up,...
