quad rank 533mhz vs dual rank 800mhz by [email protected]
Hi Everyone I'd be grateful of anyone's input on this. I'm looking to get a Dell PowerEdge 2970 2 x Quad Core Opteron. When it came to specifying the memory there was a huge difference in price - 32GB 800mhz dual rank comes at machine cost where as 32GB 667 clocked to 533 comes at a collosal...

There are lots of peripherals available thesedays, such as memory stick, CF card, digital sensors, LCD, controller, etc. Usually the peripheral itself is an embedded system and running software inside. I would like to know if I can also call the inside software "device driver", cause these term...

I am looking out for a quiet 500gb to 1Tb external drive (pre built) for my Humax PVR backup. A fanless case is going to be the way to go but I intend placing the unit on top of the PVR which is in an enclosed TV stand which has some opening in the back and a few gaps around the glass front...

How to interface the output from an alarm to a PC? by dean
Is there a card that plugs into a PC that has input terminals that can be linked to an alarm system (for example the typical N/O or N/C terminals)? (The use-case is that I want to be emailed when a motion detector is tripped - the system has the terminals stated above). Thanks!

Help - I think I've killed a friend's computer :o( by Pete Zahut
A friend of mine is giving his old computer to someone and asked me to sanitize the hard drive for him before he passes it on. He gave me a (genuine) Windows XP Pro CD along with his machine, so I thought that the best way forward was to boot from the CD, delete the (single) partition, create a...

Noisy power supply fan by spasmous2
I recently got an old HP d300 computer. It's been working erratically - about one or two BSOD's a day for a couple of weeks. I checked the memory (31 passes of memtest86+) and changed the hard disk (it needed it anyway), but still get crashes. I've started noticing something in the case is making...

How to make a hardware switch for stereo to surround speakers? by ShadowTek[_4_]
I was thinking about making a hardware switch that would allow me to run the front channel speaker outputs to the rear speakers when I'm only using stereo media, then I can just flip a switch have the rear speaker receive their usual rear channels. This will allow me to fully utilize all speakers...
