USB 2.0 Question by David Burnett
I have an external USB 2.0 CD-RW that is performing poorly. I think it is due to the fact that I only have one USB hub that is integrated into the motherboard for six USB ports. My question is would I be better off putting in a PCI card and adding more ports, or using a self-powered USB hub that...

Hi, I am in the process of buying a Samsung ML-1710 laser printer and am looking to buy a USB cable. I have seen for example at Officedepot the "Belkin" brand for around $25 which I understand is the Rolls Royce of usb cables, but I am wondering if I could just as easily get a cheap one to do the...

Diff between 650 MB and 700 MB CD ROM by Roedy Green
I wondered what the physical difference is between a 650 and 700 MB recordable CD ROM. How does the drive figure out which kind of blank it has? What does it do different to record? I have heard audio cds created this way are compatible with home units. Is it just they allow more inner tracks...

I have a ultra 3 scsi that all of a sudden stopped booting and the activity light stays lit all the time. It won't boot and is not recognized by the scsi card correctly. If it is bad what are my options to get data from it? It does spin but no software I have will read it. It made a sound like...

How to get better airflow? by Vin
hi there, my current case has one 80mm fan (below the PSU) blowing air out of the case (plus the regulars: one cpu fan and one exhaust fan on the back of the psu). i've not added an intake fan in the front/bottom as there's no opening in my case for any airflow, so a fan there would be totally...

PC Occasionally Doesn't Boot by Buck Turgidson
I have a brand x clone running Windows 2000. Occasionally, it has trouble booting. It sometimes does the BIOS check, then hangs, sometimes it hangs during the boot process itself. I have done virus scans, and run defrag. I remember MSFT used to deliver a utility called scandisk. Maybe they...

What to look for in a P4 motherboard? by Peter Gibbons
I've been out of the hardware scene for awhile, but I'm looking to upgrade my current system to a P4 2.X system. While checking out www.pricewatch.com, I noticed all kinds of new features that I have no idea what they mean: FSB 800, hyperthreading, Socket 478, etc. Can someone give me a baseline...
