AMD 64 X2 4200 or 4400? by
Don Burnette
Hi all,
I plan on ordering either the AMD X2 4200 or the 4400.
There is about a 100 dollar difference in the price at Newegg, obviously due
to the 4400 having the larger L2 cache ( 1mb per core versus 512 kb per core
on the 4200).
Both are listed as 2.2 ghz processors.
I use my computer mainly...

I do non-gaming too like watch HDTV shows, DVDs, videos, listen to

RAM Frequency question by
Larry Hodges
Sorry guys...there is no RAM or memory specific ng out there that I can
find. So if you don't mind, I'll ask it here since I've been lurking here a
lot lately.
I just built a new system, but when I run Everest or CPU-Z, it says my
memory timing frequency is 200MHz. However, the RAM is 400MHz. ...

Baffling problem with Asus M2N32-SLI based machine by
alisonnic
I have a baffling problem with a computer I built about six months
ago, based around an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard.
After a series of problems (see history, below), this computer ran
fine for several weeks. Then, a couple of days ago, after several
hours of heavy use, when I exited a game,...

The end of the road for the DIY PC? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Intel has announced that they will stop making replaceable CPU's after
Haswell. From now on, all CPU's are supposed to be in BGA packaging,
which means you can only attach CPU's to the motherboard by soldiering
them on. You won't be seeing these in any home DIY's toolkit, so it's
the end of the...

Defective AMD 4200+ X2 CPU ?? - Catastrophically Overheating by
John Smith
Note: The Boxed Retail AMD processor looked OK from the outside, but the
green packing material housing the fan and heat sink was badly mangled and
almost disintegrated. The CPU itself was secure in it plastic cover.
I built a lightly loaded system with the following:

ECS motherboards by
Steven Liburd
I'm looking into upgrading my system, on the cheap. I've seen an ECS
nForce4, Socket 939 board (combo with an Athlon 64 3000+, 256Meg).
1) Is ECS not worth buying?
2) Is 'dual channel' a function of the board, or the RAM, or both?
I'm trying to go cheap, but I at least want to get what I'm...

Components for a new 64-bit system ??? by
Mike
I just purchased an Athlon 64 3400+ Socket-939 and an MSI Neo2 Platinum
motherboard. I have a couple of questions since I'm relatively new to the
64-bit world.
I'm considering a PowerChill Copper Cooler ( MD-TTC-1744-OPT) heatsink and
would like to know if this will do for a moderate amount of...
