2nd Video card in XPS 600 by
I just took delivery of an nVidia 8800 GTS to go into my XPS 600 along with the nVidia 7900 GTX. Does it make any difference which slot the two card are in? I would want games to use the monitor connected to the 8800.

Color Calibration of 30" Dell 3007 by
How likely is it that the new Dell 3007 can be adequately color calibrated for an amateur Photoshop CS and video editor? I crave the high resolution, but want to be sure I will have a reasonable color flow across my scanner, monitor and printer... Thanks, --

Wireless PCI or USB for desktop by
Getting a new desktop, putting it in a room that is hard to run a cable to, so want to add it to my wireless network. Any preferred solution? I see a number of USB based devices, as well as PCI at newegg. -- Andrew Hall

Memtest-86 v3.2 by
My new machine gave me 4 blue screens, so I fired up memtest. Lots of failures. I have never had a failure before. Is memtest-86 v3.2 a valid test for an XPS-600 with the 3.2 gHz EE dual core chip? Should I let Dell replace the memory or just send the machine back? I waited a long time to get...

Monitor Question: 2407WFP vs. 2407FPW?? by
I've seen both of these on the Dell website, and I have asked Dell Reps about it. Some people have said it's a typo. Some people have said they just changed the model name to be consistant with the 2405FPW. Some people don't have a clue as to why there are two...

Salesmanship by
A friend of mine has just ordered a Dell laptop and the salesman has convinced him to pay extra for XP Professional. The tale he was told was that if he didn't have the professional version he wouldn't be able to run Vista because the Home Edition wasn't good enough. I fully understand that in...

Laptop and ATV by 'Captain' Kirk DeHaan
I've got an Inspirion 8500. The question is relative to laptops in general. I'm planning on taking my laptop along on ATV rides to use with my GPS to show trails, etc. I'm planning on using some 3" foam to make a cradle to hold the laptop in while moving. I believe the disks these days are...

Inspirion 8500 mic input by 'Captain' Kirk DeHaan
I have a pocket digital recorder that I want to interface to my laptop. I want to transfer the audio recordings to disk. I am sure there are some impedance matching issues here as I will be going from the earphone output to the mic input on the laptop. Since, I am assuming, the mic input is mono...

Long term 100% CPU by 'Captain' Kirk DeHaan
Is there a detriment to running your processor at 100% so long as the cooling fans are running properly and there is adequate air flow? I have an Inspirion 8500 and started playing with SETI@home s/w which punches it up to 100% . The Threadmaster s/w that supposedly tones down the load on the CPU...

PCMCIA interface on Inspirion 8500 by 'Captain' Kirk DeHaan
I've got an 8500. I have been having worlds of trouble trying to get a wireless PC card to work in this system. I've tried Linksys, Netgear and a YDI Diamond card. The latter is the only one that would "connect" to anything. All cards are seen by system and the drivers loaded and they would see...

Hot plug PCMCIA? by 'Captain' Kirk DeHaan
I've got an 8500 and just bought a wifi card for the PCMCIA slot. Can PCMCIA cards be hot plugged providing you "unmount" them? Or is it card specific? Kirk "Moe, Larry, the cheese!", Curly
