Significance of 90nm process? by
[email protected]
Apologies for the n00bish question on the front end, but what is the
significance of a 90nm process? What exactly does this mean? Does
this equate to number of transistors in a confined space of 90nm? Are
there heat dissipation considerations?
I continually read about this 90nm process, and I'm...

64 cooler than XP? by
Large Farva
I just built my first system using an Athlon 64, it's a 2800 socket 754. I
also got a Zalman 92mm cooler which is something I've always wanted to try.
Let me tell you, this thing runs cooooool. I'm talking 26 degrees, people.
And the fan is SILENT. I've built plenty of XP systems and the CPU temps...

MSI & ATI chipset motherboard by
Yousuf Khan
A friend just picked up a Socket 939 micro-ATX motherboard from MSI, the
RS480M2 with integrated graphics. It has an ATI Radion Xpress 200
chipset. I'm not too familiar with this chipset, any word out there
about its compatibility, reliability, and performance?

The future of PCs by
Tim
64 bit architecture, multiple cores, it's all wonderful stuff. But as
everyone probably knows, without a mainstream 64bit OS with solid drivers,
without 64bit apps optimized for multithreading, it's all a bit premature. I
know that this technology has its advantages now but when will it be...

I'm planning on having a custom system built, primarily for gaming, internet
use,and occasional CD burning.I was going to go with the 4000+ San Diego, but
now that the dual core 64's are out,I'm starting to wonder if a 4400 would
be a better long range choice.(I skipped the 4200 because for a small...

CPU use during heavy disk access by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have just installed a new Venice 3200+ in a Asus A8N-Premium. I
noticed recently that whenever there is very heavy disk use (copying
over GBs, or installing software from DVD), the CPU useage will
fluctuate very heavily from 30 to 100% several times a second, and the
computer will...

backward compatibility and performance degredation of existing
applications.
Backward compatibility has been the bane of CPU designers for the last
20 years. In...
