wireless question by
Bacchus
Hi
Here's the scenario. I presently have an internet hi-speed cable hook up in
my office upstairs. I am also running a laptop off of this through a Link
SYS Wireless-B 2.4GHz 802.11b broadband router. The internet and my PC are
hooked up to this router, obviously.
I also have in my possession...

Wireless Question by
Jim T.
I want to set up my laptop for wireless. It would be great to have the
printer located at the router. I have no other computer.
Is there a good, reasonable, 802.11g combo wireless router and
printserver? Reviews of the only one I found (SMC) are really bad.

Wireless Question by
gecko
I am using a wired LAN now and want to convert to wireless so my
children can use my network from their laptops when they visit. This
seems to be something they really want to be able to do so they can do
business here as they do at home. New world for me.
Anyway, I would like to know:

I am placing my wireless pc about 15' away from the source. It will need to
go through 3 walls at that distance (frame house). Is it likely to work?

Wireless range by
Gareth Tuckwell
Is there any way to improve the range of a wireless card?
I have a desktop PC and a laptop, both have wireless network cards and are
talking to the same wireless broadband router in another room about 8m away,
through 2 internal walls. With the 2 computers sitting side-by-side, the
laptop PCMCIA...

I just got a wireless router, and I have a question.
Is there any way to have a wireless network that is essentially hidden?
(so that it doesn't show up when some average user lists the networks
in the area).

Wireless router by
William
My neighbor has a laptop which uses the internet thru a cable modem coupled
to a wireless router.
What hardware/software do I need to use the same router. The distance
between the 2 computers is about 25 meters.

Does anybody know about NetGear 802.11b CBL/DSL Router?
I found it on dabs.co.uk but I'm not sure if that's what I need. It says
in the description that it has NAT firewall (which is what I want).
Looks to me it has a built-in access point for wireless LAN and a UTP
socket for internet (or...

wireless router by

Ok. I have setup the wireless router with 128-bit encryption and entered a
26 char key. The authentication mode is "shared". From my windows xp laptop
I am able to connect to the internet through this router.
Q. I did not enter the 26-char key on the laptop. This encryption ensures
that no one can...

Wireless Router Dsl Modem Combination by
Jack Gillis
Does any manufacturer make a Wireless/Router/Dsl modem combination? I
believe Zoom has a Router/Modem combination but it does not have
wireless.
I would simply like to have the convenience of just one box. I've to
many cables and power adapters as it is.
Thank you.

Wireless router question by
Dave Smith
I'm going to set up a wireless router that also will support four
computers on wired ports. Will the wired computers be vulnerable to
drive-by snoopers etc. if I don't activate the wireless encryption?
Just wondering as I'll probably use the security features in any case.
Thanks.

wireless router??? by

I do want to buy a certain laptop, it has everything on I want, except
a modem. The saleslady told me I would need a wireless router to make
it work with my regular slow phone line. I never came across this
problem and just wanted to make sure if this is the way to go about
before I buy it, because...

Wireless routers? by
JimL[_2_]
Is there a lot of difference in the effectiveness of wireless routers?
My only obvious use for wireless would be either to use the laptop out on
the deck or upstairs while in bed. Would a wireless router be likely to be
marginal in such "through the wall" or "through the floor" situations...

Wireless signal by
Altar
Hi
For somebody who wants to increase the range of the wireless radio signal,
just try to attach a chips pringle's tube (just a half of the tube, in order
to make a U) into the router's antenna.
Hope this helps someone

Wireless speed by
GT
Is there a free downloadable bit of software to test the actual transfer
speeds of a wireless connection? I want to know if my 11Mbs 802.11b
connection is fast enough for me to use the full 8MB of my broadband
connection, or whether I should upgrade to 802.11g (54Mb) or even 802.11n
(?)....

Wireless speeds erratic, PCI card going bad? by

All of a sudden the connection speeds are jumping around from 1.0 Mbps to 54
Mbps. The router is brand new and the other computers on the network are
fine. Is this a symptom of the wireless PCI card going bad? The card is a
