Michele
Hi,
I have some old disquettes (sony 1.44) that should have some word documents
on them. They are from 1996 and were probably made with Word on a pentium
386 PC. The 3 computers I've tried to read them on want to format the discs
and I can't retrieve the files. Can anyone please tell me how to...

Accessing a Linux HDD from XP by
Alfred Molon
I have an Allnet NAS 6200 external drive with a 250 GB HDD inside. This
is a network drive, where the HDD internally is formatted with a Linux
file system.
I'm planning to stop using the Allnet box and instead get a USB 2.0
external drive box and put the 250GB HDD into it. How can I access...

Belkin UPS by
Ted
Having just started working from home (CAD draughting) the first day we had
2 power cuts (outs) in 24 hours.
A UPS was therefore moved up the most wanted list, to the top.
I set a budget of £100 +/- 10% and a search for the various makes came up
with the Belkin F6C800uk Universal. In fact it was...

WD40 and motherboard? by
Pete
I thought I was spraying compressed air to clean the dust off my MB.
However, I had accidentally picked up the can of WD40!
Will this do anything to the MB???
I feel like an idiot.

Hard drive noise by
Robert Murphy
I have an infamous IBM Deathstar (an rma actually)
It has an intermittent high pitched whining sound that last for a few tens
of seconds then disappears for minutes, or hours.
SMART doesn't show anything wrong with it. I had a Seagate drive that did
the same thing for a while, then stopped doing...

Any clue ? by
padutou
Hi
I'm new here.
The last two nights, I have experienced something really weird. I
wonder if anything like this has ever happened to anyone, here.
Two days ago around 11:00PM, I was playing MVP Baseball 2005 and
suddenly, everything on the screen became "greener". I kept playing and

usb 1.1 to 2.0 card? by
Joel
I have a 3-4 year old Intel El Paso motherboard w/82845 chipset. It has 2
front mounted USB 1.1 ports. I traced the cable to the connector on the
motherboard and it's easily accessible.
My question: Is there a USB 2.0 PCI card out there that has an internal
connector compatible with the...

sd-ram and ddr-ram for my computer by
[email protected]
I'm looking at new ram to buy for my computer and I have two questions:
a) Is DDR-RAM the same as DDR-SDRAM? The reason it seems like this is
because newegg.com has SDRAM and it has DDR-SDRAM but it does not have
just DDR-RAM.
b) What is the difference between Registered and Unbuffered RAM? ...

Memory facts & queries (SDRAM - PC100/133) by
CBFalconer
I want to upgrade the memory on my system. The MB manual (Intel
SE440BX-2) data insists that the components be unbuffered, with
gold plated connectors, and have an SPD (Speed Presence Detect)
feature, and PC100 speed or better. I absolutely want ECC.
Mismatching plating with connectors can lead...

Drive Mapping with USB Card Reader by
Dave \IT\
I'm in a network environment, and my computer has several network drives
mapped (F, G, H, O and R). These, obviously, resolve after login (WindowsXP
Professional). I've recently purchased a 12-in-1 media card reader. If I
plug the device in before the computer is on, it maps 4 drives ( F, G, H...

1GB DDR 400Mhz Memory and memory controller questions. by
Red
Hi All,
Been reading the group for a quite a while, and now its time to ask a
question myself :-)
I recently bought a 1gb stick of DDR 400. Realised too late that I
maybe should have bought 2 x 512 DDR400 so that I had 1 memory
controller working on each 512 stick. This is something I have...

Is my monitor shot or is it software related? by
Steve Horrillo

showing nothing but a pattern of fine vertical lines. When hook up an
external monitor the external one is working fine. All I notice different
from the last time I worked on his computer is that the bios battery seems
dead....
