My Vintage Dream PC by
GreenXenon

My vintage dream PC contains the most advanced motherboard that contains the most amount of 16-bit ISA
slots but does not contain any PCI or other non ISA also. It does not
even have any EISA or SCSI.
Here are the other specs of my vintage dream PC

PC 4GB RAM limit by
Tim Anderson
The cheaper motherboards (ie. most of them) for P4 or Athlon 64 support a
maximum of 4GB RAM, even if the motherboards and processors support the
AMD64 extensions that can address sqillions of GB. On the other hand, more
upmarket boards support more RAM - up to 24GB or maybe more - for Xeon...

Why Pentium? by
Talal Itani
Hello,
I am in the market for a good computer, with a dual-core CPU. I keep
reading that Athlon is better than Pentium, Athlon is faster than Pentium,
and Athlon is lower priced than Pentium. But if that is the case, why do
most businesses have Pentium based PCs and not Athlon based PCs?...

OEM vs Retail XP Pro by
jeh
Is there any real difference between the oem and retail versions of xp
pro? I've heard that if you're going to be doing upgrading here and
there occasionally you might run into problems with oem versions.

Thoughts on Vista by
Mike T.
In case you are the last person in the known universe to have heard this,
Vista has been released. No, don't run out to Best Buy or Circuit City, you
won't find it there. But Beta 2 (build 5384) is in "public" Beta, meaning
that soon billions of computer users worldwide will be using Vista. (say...

WiFi security issues? Newbie ? for W7 by
RayLopez99
I'm switching to Windows 7 on my new laptop and I wonder if there are
WiFi issues I should be aware of. I normally have this machine wired
to a hub on a wired modem/router and so I don't use WiFi, but I'm
thinking if I do, there should be some gotchas. Yes this is an anti-
virus question, don't...

Anybody here use Linux? by

If I ask this question at a Linux ng, they'll say XP sucks. If I ask at an
XP ng, they'll say Linux sucks.
From what I've read Mandrake is the best for desktop apps and for newbies
(like me). I've been using windows since 3.11(currently XP home) and was
wondering if anybody here uses Linux, and...

For Logitech MX1000 laser mouse owners by
John Doe
What is your experience with the Logitech MX 1000 laser mouse?
I am mainly concerned about precision and physical ease of use. Is
it noticeably better than other mice you have owned? How much
better? Is picking up the mouse a problem? Do you have to pick up
the mouse less than with other...
