How the mighty have fallen by
Phil Weldon[_5_]
Sad to see how few posts a.c.h.o gets these days. I certainly haven't
done my part lately. I haven't even set up my desktop since I moved
18 months ago - and a fairly decent lthree-year-old laptop (T7300/3 GB/
500 GB/nVidia 8600M GT/1680 x 1050) isn't a lot of overclocking fun
(maybe 20% for the...

safe cpu temp by
coltrane
I am new to overclocking. I have a 2.6mhz quad core i5 running at
3.6mhz. The idle cpu temp hovers around 60c. When I run a stress test
using Prime95 the temp goes to 95c. How much heat can a cpu take?
thanks

Overclocking x710 BE by
numbnuts2
If you install a fast, uncluttered OS (say, Ubuntu/Gnome minus unneeded
distro stuff), removing all unneeded extensions, you won't need to
overclock.
With your cool hardware, your machine will fly. Good luck!
Always use a router, Grasshopper.

Computer hands, with solid ON HD LED on a rare basis. by

I had a couple "hangs" on my "new" PC where the Harddisk LED turns on
continuously and the performance goes to near zero. The PC consists of a
Gigabyte Ga-P31DS3L motherboard, Q8200 processor, eVGA 790 GTO videocard, 2x2GB
Crucial PCII-6400 memory, 2 SATA harddrives, SATA DVD-R drive, OCZ 500W...

Boot fails after shutdown, works after power off. by
Bob F
I am building a new system using a used Q8200, used Gigabyte GA-p31-DS3L, new
2x2GB PC6400 RAM. I have had it overclocked to 2.8 GHz, running fine overnight
with Prime 95 torture test on all 4 cores. The BIOS is set for 400 FSB and
"Auto" power settings.
The problem. The machine has begun to...

Gigabyte GA-P31-ES3G Manual Vcore Problem by
Ed Light
I'm overclocking my E5200, or trying to. I set voltages to Manual, Vcore
to 1.35, and in the Health BIOS screen it shows near that, I have C1E
and EIST disabled.
In Windows, cpu-z and Gigabyte Easy Tune show at or near 1.25, like they
do when voltages aren't on Manual.
I have the chipset...

BIOS setting "Memory over voltage" shows value in red by
Maurice Batey[_2_]
In the BIOS Setup 'Ai Tweaker' menu of my Asus P5QL/EPU motherboard I
just happened to notice that the BIOS setting "Memory over voltage" is
shown as "2.10000" in *red*.
I find the red colour scary. Why red?
Would I lose anything by changing the setting to 'Auto'?

Help: underclock and undervolt Mobile Duron - Morgan core by
Noriek
Hello all,
I have a Sony Vaio pcg-fx501 laptop (about year 2000/2001 I think) which
sports a Mobile Duron, 1Ghz, Morgan core.
It runs very hot so I'm looking to underclock and or, at least, undervolt it
slightly.
There is, as far as I can see, no facility in the bios for this so I have to
go...

Setup.exe
Hi everybody
I just need help to correct bios settings, if possible to get best
results - no overclock needed (as I havent got the propper cooler for
the moment) :
The main problem is my two DDR2 800 - 2 GB each (1) are only recognized
as DDR 400 Mhz when I set bios to "optimized settings".

65c+ temps at idle on celeron d 3.06GHz by

not overclocked but the system was given to me as a junker because of
"overheating." The bios was reading 90+C and I could only read it for a
second before the system re-booted itself. So I replaced the fan and HS with
a copper core intel HS and the temps are now in the mid 60's as according to...

Newbie needing step by step ! by
Phil[_14_]
Have not a clue where to start - bought the new Pentium E6300 2.8ghz (or
relatively new anyways. Newer than the Conroe 1.8 E6300 anyway !) and have
been told that taking it up to 4.0ghz isn't out of the question. I'd be
happy with less than that TBH. Also, how can I "up" my 4gb of DDR2 sdram...
