Audio input+output at the same time

Hello,

can anyone help me with this problem?

I would like to do input and output from
a single soundcard at the same time.
Hoever it seems to be impossible to do output
while input is read from the soundcard.

I use a Soundblaster 16 soundcard
and the ALSA sound interface under linux
(SuSE linux 7.0, amixer -v yields 0.5.8).

E.g. a simple pipe
arecord -r|aplay -r
does not produce any output.
